In response to the urgent need to reopen K-12 schools after the COVID-19 pandemic, Mitchell Giurgola developed a study on how merging healthcare and learning at primary and secondary schools will have enormous benefits to civic life and will give schools added importance as anchors to all people in their neighborhoods. Using the firm’s expertise in designing K-12 facilities, we examined what the impact of reopening may look like at the scale of the city, the school building, and the hallway and classroom.
